Preserving the wild Florida for the next generation of explorers.
Do not let the short distance fool you. The trail surface is made up of soft, deep sugar sand, which requires more effort than a paved or hard packed trail. Closed toe shoes are recommended.
Carry water even though the trail is only 0.6 miles. The exposed conditions and soft sand can make the hike feel warmer and more demanding than its distance suggests
Lyonia Preserve is an open scrub habitat with little to no shade. Bring sun protection and consider visiting earlier in the day, especially during warmer months.
Lyonia Preserve protects habitat used by the threatened Florida scrub jay. Visiting before 10am may improve your chances of seeing one, but remain patient and observe wildlife without disturbing it.
